Sometimes we feel like we are the only person who cares about our growth. Actually, that may be partially true. Others will care to the extent that you are passionate about it yourself. Be your own advocate. Look for options to grow. Sell your participation in classes, conferences, certificate programs, and other growth opportunities to those who will approve your time. Tell your manager the benefits you will bring back to the team by participating in professional development. Be clear on what you will do with your new knowledge. Don’t just attend the conference to use the agency credit card and go out to dinner. Go with goals and come back with ideas to help the team. If you do this, you will find a much more open door for participating in future growth opportunities.
